Our homeschooling group took a tour of the USS New Jersey (Battleship New Jersey), docked in Camden, NJ. Nearly three football fields long and over 11 stories high, the Battleship New Jersey was the longest battleship ever built. And, 1.5 hours into our tour, we had only covered four of the decks! During the tour we visited seamen’s living quarters, the ship’s forecastle and turrets, and stood in awe gazing at the missile launchers, “big 16” guns, and more.
A trip to Battleship NJ had been high up on my youngest son's wish list, and the ship did not disappoint! There are mannequins throughout the ship in various poses and scenes which he thought was a but creepy, but he loved the massive guns and missile launchers.
There was so much to see that we will probably take another trip in the spring. I think much of the tour guide's explanations and information was lost on the kids on this trip because they were just taking in everything they saw and trying not to get lost on board!
On a scale of 1-10, my 11 year-old son rated this trip an 8.5, my 13 year-old daughter rated it a 7.
